This was a combination project, I wanted to make these for my family for Christmas. However my vinyl plotter pooped out on me and I just ran out of time. I was able to figure them out after Christmas and get them going for our RS project for January. Oh did I get in over my head for making 30 of them! Here are are few of them, I think they are adorable and functional. they are for sale at my etsy store now!

4 days before Mother's Day I decided these would be great gifts for two of my dear friends who just spoiled the heck out of me for my birthday. I don't know how, but somehow I got them done, and even quite happy with the finished products! Happy Mother's Day Deb and Lynn!

I used a brooch pin to attach the flowers to the fronts of the bags. I was really not happy with how the red, white and blue flower turned out so I switched it out with a blue rosette to match the linning.

April's out of the box bouquet of bracelets

I'm contributing again this month to Out Of the Box Sampler, and literally worked on these little beauties all month long! At home and work- making fabric flowers, in bed making fabric flowers, in line at the bank - yes flowers, catching a table of one business breakfast/brunch - iPod and making flowers.

so now I have a bouquet of flowers .... what to do with them? (besides, headbands, necklaces and corsage pinbacks? Oh ya and a hat.... )

but I digress, for next months OOTBS I am giving away samples of a few of my necklaces, some headbands, but mostly I have made 21 bracelets that each have a handmade flower attached.

a bracelet alone is fun....thus the "sample" part of the sampler

however bracelets in bulk is an awesome wrist corsage! I wore some to church on Sunday, and got lots of compliments... now to make some for my Etsy and Funky Finds stores!

fabric flower-rama necklaces

so you already know I'm addicted to making fabric flowers, right??

I put them on pinbacks and added them to necklaces! aren't they cute? If you want to wear them without the necklace, just pin them to something else, easy as that!

(I gave this one to Tennielle for her birthday this week, Happy Birthday girly)

now I just need to list them on Etsy, and Funkyfinds... does anyone else dread that part of the creative process?

I found this site called Out Of the Box Sampler (see them here) , seriously boxes filled to the top with handmade goods, and it looked like a good way to get my product into buyers hands!

fabric flowers and lilly pads

lesson:

making fabric flowers can be addictive!

This is just what I've come up with since Monday night (yes last night Monday night)... not bad

I cut out strips and strips of old hand me down t-shirts that were given to me and this is what I came up with!

yes this headband is huge on her head, but she was the only one willing to hold still for a picture, I was thinking more along the lines of and adult bridal head ;)

It took me longer to do this one that it did to do every other piece below.... combined!

I ran into this tutorial and took the fabric flowers and ran with it, then when I couldn't do it her way, I changed it to my own way.! I plan to do a tutorial on that soon.

These are my fabric Lilly Pad hair clips, aren't they cute?!

I'm going to give away one lilly pad with each purchase (over $5) at my shops until March 15th!

Each Lilly Pad is unique, the green pad is puffy with cotton in the middle, and the fabric frog print flower curls in toward the center.

So go buy something over $5 at my Etsy Shop or my FunkyFinds Shop and get one free!

We are surrounded by pregnant ladies! These are what I made for baby shower gifts to go with their super cute dresses! The only baby head available to model was my 18 month old son.... and when I tried, he cried - so I introduce my model "BABY TAD!"

if only it was Tuesday I could call it 2for tuesday.... but alas it's monday.
(I'm going to sell these in 2 packs!)

I worked on headbands all weekend, they are all using materials I had on hand and recycled clothing that was only going to get called UGLY at Goodwill, so I cut it up and gave it new life!

the flowers were just simple pink and white to match anything that comes their way! and the peacock feathers were inspired by a show the kids and I watched this weekend, each feather is amazing!

I used the thinnest metal for the headbands I could find, because headbands always hurt my head after an hour.

special orders, Note cards and Flowers

Custom orders are so exciting to me, it means "someone looked at my work, and not only liked it, but had to have something of their own and trusted me to do it right!"

These are two of my most recent customer orders:

this was for a Primary President for her primary children, they are a wide variety of 50 cute textured note cards. They are blank inside and include envelopes.

These are for Susannah who is getting married at the end of the month. She wanted 5 of my silver hair flowers for her brides maids. They are made of satin, with three glass pearls and a heart charm hand sewn in the middle, with black and white polka dotted feathers. (I made some extras, let me know if you are interested in ordering some ;)

I hope that my creations make both of their endeavors more beautiful and successful!

early Crazy Cat Lady Pearls

Happy Birthday to little Eva tomorrow. She is turning 5 and is one of Jojo's best friends. Eva also loves cats, I have a friend that I call CCL (crazy cat lady, because she is) and I hope that her birthday necklace doesn't enforce a dormant CCL quality that otherwise would have gone unnoticed!

I had made this scrabble tile pendant a few months ago but not put it to use. I strung some glass beads that look like pearls and added a butterfly.

Once upon a time my friend Shauna was given some beautiful shirts by her husband who travels internationally. He picked her out some shirts he thought looked her size and style (how thoughtful, and disastrous right?!)

so although she really did like the shirts, they just didn't fit her non ethnic, American shape! So she asked me to to make something out of them for her little girl.

and of course as usual I was too excited and forgot to take "before" pictures :(

These wide leg pants/capris with embroidery at the ankle should fit almost every child at her house (I used the super wide sleeves from the shirt) Also the white linen of the shirt had some stains or something that was making me unhappy with it. So I soaked them in coffee for half hour, and got a darker look.

and I love this adorable dress! I has loads of hand sewn green, and brown beading. The original white shirt with beading was very straight, so I added some brown knit for the skirt part of the dress and the super long belt and waist line and some cute buttons.

They are both one of a kind, and I hope she likes them!

Between the glitter and the hot glue gun it's been a very dangerous night over here at the Poppins household. Little Miss "helped" me make headbands tonight, and I think they turned out pretty darn cute! Of course we never finish projects during the day light, so you will just have to rely on our flash photography! Hold on and keep your arms in the vehicle!
(updated: Kate from red-feather photography took pity on our pitiful pictures and snapped some shots of peanut butter face jojo! thanks kate!)

I wanted to name one of them "the Kate" but in the end I couldn't pick just one. Which one do you think Kate?

HOW TO make 2010 Primary Theme Blocks for birthdays - DIY

Need an idea, project or birthday present for your primary kids?

Here is an easy how to just for you!

(dedicated to: our Primary President Wendy - who always tries to tell me she's NOT Crafty!)

(model was forced to smile, but I do think she liked it)

what you need:

measuring tape

blocks of wood (we used 3 1/2 planks cut into 6 inch pieces - but get creative use what you can find!)

Picture or graphic - you can get them here

paint - spray or brush on

spray adhesive, or whatever glue you like

craft knife

sandpaper (if you are doing a lot of them I recommend using a sander)

sealer - recommend spay on sealer

paint pen

there are lots of places to get wood, but my favorite is the .51 cent pile at home depot. A 4 ft board got me 8 six inch pieces (for .51!)

If you don't cut wood, call your home teacher, I used Brother Rodriguez, but even he has limits so call your own home teacher!

Paint the back and sides whatever color you like

At this point you should already know the size and you can choose to crop your image if you need to, or wait and do it once adhered.

Apply the glue of your choice (I wanted to show you without going back outside, but did NOT spray this in the house)

put the bare side of the wood to the back of your image.

squish out any air, and make sure it's on there good

cutting the edges off are gonna be ugly, it's ok don't worry about it

don't be a perfectionist!

Sand sand sand, all the front and side edges. It's ok if you sand part of the picture, it adds character. Really, quit being a perfectionist!

Wipe all your sawdust off

You can sign now or later. Our Primary presidency is going to sign them all later, I just wanted you to see how it will look (special huh?)

Spray sealer, a couple nice coats to ensure a really finished, held together look.

There you go, as easy way to show your kids you think they are special (and for very little $) We spent right at $20 for 50 blocks!

I hope this gets your creative juices going!

My wonderful parents got us the most luxurious, thoughtful, and generous present for Christmas this year.... a Roomba, and we love her. Her name is Rosario, Rosie for short.

(run Rosie run!!!)

Like one of the family, we looooove her. Jojo CHEERS her on, rubs her, and even kisses her for appreciated work done.

one of us sees her as a riding toy... but Rosie got her revenge on him!

We all named our Roomba's the list is: Hilda, Amelia Badelia, Roberta, Sally, and Rosie the Roomba.

So I had the brilliant idea to tag them all, I mean you never know when we are all going to show up at the same place with our little buddies and we don't want any confusion.... right? So I hope everyone enjoys their vinyl names for their new family members. You can get yours HERE. ;)

NYC halloween debut!

as you can see here, I didn't make my fashion design debut at fashion week in NY, but even better!

THE adorable Wendy B of Wendy Brandes Fine Jewelry line as seen here and here, debuted her one of a kind shirt/dress I made for her on Halloween!

Wendy LURVES bows, and the ribbon through the top made a nice big bow - I knew it must be hers. It just goes to show the versatility of the piece, I originally designed it as a shirt with the ribbon tying on the top of her shoulder, but she pulled it off as an adorable dress! I'm so glad she liked it and that it made her day bright.

Brookly's Elf dress

today Brookly's mom texted me "got any cute ideas for the cutest elf costume ever for Brookly's school Christmas program?"

Well Nicole, yes I do. I made her an adorable dress from a woman's green t-shirt!

yes I did use hot pink thread, and I did this for 3 reasons:

I wanted her to have a dress she could wear for the next year or two that wouldn't scream "I'm an elf dress !"
You can't see the pink thread from the audience (so whew!)
I'm incredibly lazy and hate changing thread for a new project! (most importantly)

So there you have it, a one of a kind, year round ruffly, sassy, funky, green dress.... that will also be making it's stage debut on an elf.

This was last week's... or was it the week before that.. hum, these late crafting nights are running together. Anyway, I made these for Jojo to share with her preschool friends for Halloween instead of candy (what? don't make fun - I was sick of candy and scary Halloween things long before the day arrived!)

I forgot to take pics of the ones I made for the girls, but these are the ones I made for my Etsy shop. I put a star charm in the middle of each one that says "Just for You", I thought these would make really special gifts (for teachers or friends) that they would remind the recipient every time they wore it, that is was made and bought lovingly "just for me!" Also the feather accent looks more amazing than I could have hoped for (thanks Kate for letting me reconstruct your original!)

model wouldn't cooperate.... shocking... so we will just do with what we have!

I stayed up wayyyyy toooooo late last night (well technically well into the morning) working on these cuties! they are all made from recycled fabrics... can you guess what they used to be?

if you guess: sham wows.... you would be wrong!
if you guessed curtains: give yourself a gold star!

although I think most of them would fit smaller women, I had the girls with curves in mind (like myself) These are perfect for sizes Large and Extra large!

back to school clothes

This is a customer "cheerleader shirt/dress" it fits my customers 11 year old daughter as a dress, and is a long shirt on their 16 year old daughter (cute with jeans or leggings!)

The cool thing about the pillowcase dresses are that they GROW WITH YOU! the girls can wear them as dresses, and adjust the tie straps to geth the length they want, then when their legs get too long they can wear as cute shirts! They look really cute with a long or short sleeve tshirt underneath to change the look or just keep them warmer!
